Big Tobacco’s Psychological War On Vaping

Smoking cigarettes causes cancer, and hopefully, no one reading this blog will disagree. Unlike big tobacco’s marketing efforts in the 50s and 60s, where “4 out of 5 doctors recommend XYZ cigarette brand,” medical science has put any claims that smoking in any form is safe to rest.

 According to the CDC, one in every five deaths in the US is caused by smoking, either first or secondhand smoke, accounting for more than 480,000 deaths per year. Those are staggering numbers for an industry that continues to demonize and generate a false narrative for vaping products which currently have no notable deaths from legitimate vape products that weren’t tampered with after manufacturing. Currently, with the help and lobbying of big tobacco companies, the FDA is creating a false panic claiming that youth vaping is on the rise when in reality, according to their own data, it is and has been on the decline since 2019. On the other hand, smoking has seen a dramatic rise since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is the first increase in years and big tobacco is cashing in and wanting more..much more. Now, with regulations for vaping continuing to be passed with flying colors by our elected officials, former smokers are being pushed back to cigarettes which are, by all accounts, more harmful and deadly than legitimate vape products. What’s worse is that big tobacco companies’ vaping products are being approved to market even though few, if any, vapers actually use them.

If you’re skeptical about the safety of vaping products, consider this: there are over 7,000 chemicals in a single cigarette, according to Cancer.org, which is absolutely insane when you realize that there is only one (nicotine) present in a raw tobacco leaf. Some of the most notable chemicals in cigarettes are hydrogen cyanide,
formaldehyde, lead, arsenic, ammonia, radioactive elements such as polonium-210, benzene, and carbon monoxide, which are all…..wait for it….poisonous!
