How I Quit Smoking and Chewing Tobacco With Vaping

We don’t typically blog about personal things at Smoke and Vape Tokz but with so many threats and proposed bans against vaping, we thought it might be time. While it should be clear that most, if not all, vape products contain nicotine, which is addictive, vaping products contain far fewer chemicals and unnecessary additives than most cigarettes and tobacco products.

My name is Chris, I’m 47 years old, and the online marketing guy for Smoke and Vape Tokz smoke and vape shops, as well as their partners, and I am a frequent vaper. Vaping has likely saved my life or at the minimum several years of it. I began using chewing tobacco at age 8, and, yes, I realize that is very early, but the fact that I grew up in a rural area of Missouri made it more of the norm than one might think. Access to chewing tobacco at an early age was easy and simple to get in our hands because most adults and teenagers in the town I grew up in either did it or knew where to get it. In fact, as early as 11 years old, my friends and I were able to buy chewing tobacco from a mom-and-pop convenience store with little to no question as to how old we were. The funny thing was that when we were asked about buying chew, we would simply tell the clerk it was for our dads. I continued to chew tobacco, mostly snuff, until about the age of 15 when I came to realize that girls didn’t dig a mouthful of Kodiak or Copenhagen, at which point I took up smoking cigarettes which were just as easy to get at that time. Eventually, I left the small town I grew up in but continued to chew tobacco and smoke cigarettes regularly, including rolling my own smokes in college when I was broke. This continued well into my post-college and adult life even after I was married and the birth of my daughter, which I had promised to quit for both events. (I failed in doing so twice.) I would chew tobacco while my daughter and/or wife were in the car or if I was driving in any capacity, and once home or at my destination, would light up a smoke immediately. As I got older, my teeth began to lose their enamel and turn yellow, while every morning, I would wake up after getting up to smoke numerous times throughout the night, and cough my lungs up to the point of vomiting. Sure, allergies still do this to me on some mornings, but I was at a point where my lungs hurt every time I took a drag. (Not to mention my mouth continually had sores from chewing tobacco which I would pray wasn’t mouth cancer.)

About 3 years ago, I decided I had too many close calls and was going to quit. I did the usual steps like nicotine patches, gum, and lozenges, but I was still going bonkers after nearly 35 years of constant tobacco use. One day, I picked up a disposable vape that was supposedly tobacco flavored but, in hindsight, tasted more like a cigar. It was OK, but in times like having a beer or in a social situation, I continued to crave cigarettes and chewing tobacco. I finally found a vaping device that didn’t necessarily kill my craving for tobacco, but it did eventually get me off of using nicotine gum and patches, and I no longer drooled over merely seeing a pack of smokes. I’m not going to recommend which vape you should use if you want to quit smoking or tobacco, but just know that it worked for me and could potentially work for you. I have yet to smoke a cigarette or take a chew since I quit three years ago, and as of now, I don’t miss it. The smell of cigarettes makes me gag, and I can’t imagine having to worry about having mouth, gum, or tongue cancer from chewing (even though I sometimes miss the wintergreen flavor.) What concerns me most these days is that I know there are smokers and tobacco users that want to quit but won’t have many nicotine alternatives should the FDA put the hammer down on the vaping industry. I continue to monitor any news or actions that may affect vapers, my clients, and myself because I can tell you without a doubt that vaping got me off cigarettes and chewing tobacco.

If you want recommendations on vaping products, talk to the experts at Vape Tokz or their partner locations. They vape and know their products. Who knows, it could save your life like it did mine.
